The National Capital Area Breast Health Quality Consortium (BHQC) is an initiative lead by the Primary Care Coalition that aims to reduce disparities in breast cancer mortality in the DC metropolitan area. Over the last five years, the BHQC has worked collaboratively with breast health providers throughout the region to reduce disparities by improving the quality of care delivery for low-income women.
The BHQC hosted the Breast Health Quality Symposium on October 20th at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Approximately 150 health care professionals, health services administrators, and patient advocates from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia convened to network, celebrate the successes of their colleagues, and discuss best practices for advancing breast health equity in the region.
Highlights from the day included:
- Presentations across the continuum of breast cancer care from speakers representing the Primary Care Coalition, CommonHealth ACTION, American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, Johns Hopkins Breast Center, George Washington University Cancer Center, and Inova.
- BHQC awards presented to Dr. Regina Hampton and Community Radiology Associates by special guest, Andrea Roane, news anchor and medical reporter for WUSA9.
- Dr. Harold P. Freeman, founder and president of the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute, provided the keynote address.
