June 10, 2013 – The PCC Breast Health Initiative celebrated 6 years of breast health care improvement activities with a Making Breast Health Care Happen Event. Approximately 60 representatives from safety-net providers along the continuum of care attended the event, which included a 3-hour Process Improvement Training by Dr. Tom Nolan followed by a Breast Health Innovations Awards Reception.
Certificates were awarded to each participating safety-net primary care clinic for their devotion to improve processes, enhance data collection activities, and build partnerships to improve patient outcomes.
Breast Health Innovation Awards were given to:
- The American Breast Cancer Foundation for Mammography Funding;
- Mercy Health Clinic and Shady Grove Adventist for Partnership; and
- The Community Health Care Network for Data-Driven Processes.
The event marked the end of the Komen-funded Regional Initiative; however, breast health improvement activities continue both through the National Capital Area Breast Health Quality Consortium, the Patient Navigation Network, spread of the Change Package, and collaborations with mammography providers and funders to continue to increase access to screening mammograms.
